Curse of the Haw Creek Witch

Last week, my kiddo turned 16. We celebrated by tackling the Haunted Hotel escape room at Great Escape Mystery Rooms. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite make it out in time. As a whole, we were not an effective team. But the owner saw how much fun we were having, and since the room wasn’t otherwise booked, she let us finish. It took us an additional 14+ minutes, but we did it. We (I) also decided that our team name should be The Goonies.

It was so much fun. I highly recommend them. We’ll be going back to attempt Prison Break.

In other nerd news, my kiddo and I are now officially Funko figures. Funko is now offering customizable collectibles, and I figured it was a great way to celebrate our nerdiness. You know, because toys…

This weekend, we decided to take advantage of the weather and venture out for a camping trip. We stayed at Haw Creek, which features a couple of great waterfalls near the campground. The skies were clear the first night, and we were able to see the Milky Way. It was amazing.

The campground also featured a grave… for a witch… just yards from our campsite… which we discovered on Friday the 13th… no lie. As I suspected, it was clearly a prank that managed to go undisturbed for a few years. Still, it was unnerving given what day it was.

We played games in our downtime. My kiddo learned to play Battleship for the first time, then proceeded to kick my a$$ three times in a row. I was both proud and annoyed.

Other than that, it’s been business as usual. I have something in the works that I’m truly excited about. I can’t wait to share it, but for now I’ll leave you with a cliffhanger.

Until next time, ‘ver heil ok sæl’.
