Sentinel of Self-Deception.
That’s me in the cover image, standing vigilant against the stress that burns my sanity to the ground.
What stress, you ask? Work deadlines. Incessant repairs (home, vehicle, etc). Feelings of inadequacy as a father and husband. Inability to accept that I’m getting older and my body can’t do what it used to. Oh, and the latest — another stray dog that’s taken up residence at my house.
So goes the silent plight of the man of duty.
Okay. Enough of the melancholy horse pucky. Let’s nerd out.
First up — Shire Post Mint just released a commemorative bi-metal coin for the solar eclipse happening on April 8th of this year (two days after I turn 45). So, of course, I had to have one. I also ordered a pair of eclipse-viewing shades to go with it. This will be one helluva birthday.
Speaking of the awesomeness of space, the sky was clear a couple of nights ago, so I broke out the telescope to check out the moon. It just so happened that Jupiter was close by, so I decided to try to get a photo. I adjusted some settings on my phone and ended up seeing more than I anticipated. With the naked eye, I could only see Jupiter. But with enough exposure, I was able to see its four largest moons. How friggin’ cool!!
In altogether separate news, I managed to snag a copy of Thorin’s Key from Raven Forge to add to my Lord of the Rings collection. Next on that list? A replica of Gimli’s axe.
That’s it for now. I leave you with the funny-yet-awkward sleeping positions of the Fluffertons.
Until next time, ‘ver heil ok sæl’.
