Things are rarely black and white

Unless, of course, it’s a Kurosawa film.

It’s strange how January can be both the longest and the shortest month. I mean, 2025 literally just started, and the month is almost over. Yet, some days just seem to ddrrrraaaaggggg on. Coincidentally, those are the same days I’m trying to eat healthy.

This year has kicked off with equal parts excitement and anxiety. For instance, my career took a turn at the beginning of the year, which has led to great opportunities, along with a few insecurities.

Also, my favorite ‘lil rugrat turned 1 year old. That’s right, I’ve been a grandpa for an entire year. How is that equal parts excitement and anxiety, you might ask? Well, that’s because (1) I’m always excited to see him and spend time with him. Seriously, that little guy has brought so much joy into our lives; and (2) as a practicing Stoic, I’m always contemplating—to some degree—my own mortality. That awareness increased when I hit the ‘Grandpa’ milestone last year, and now a year has passed.

It’s always a humbling and enlightening experience when you realize you have more past than future. I intend to make that future count, to double its value. That can only happen by sharing it with the people I love.

Okay, enough sappiness. Let’s nerd this up, shall we?

I recently finished Leviathan Wakes (the first installment of The Expanse series). Such a good book, and also one of my favorites sci-fi shows of all time.

I also completed the Silent Hill 2 remake. I’m not usually a fan of horror games, but I loved the original wwaaayyy back in the day. This game was chock full of psychological horror and jump scares. And the sound design was both amazing and unnerving. Seriously, randomly hearing whispers and footsteps behind me made my skin crawl.

Now it’s time to move on to my next book and video game. I decided to switch gears and go for a common theme. I’ll be reading The Witcher: The Last Wish and playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. With the time (or lack thereof) I actually get to invest in playing and/or reading, don’t expect updates on these anytime soon.

In the meantime, I’ll be steadily chipping away at my 2025 goals. One of which is getting my CPT recertification from NASM. There’s no intention of any professional pursuits, at least not yet. This is mostly to get and keep me on track for my fitness goals. **said while eating a red velvet cupcake**

With that, I leave you with the amusements of Hazel Wigglebottom, the last of the Fluffertons.

Until next time…
