This side of the shire

After another long week of deadlines, to-do’s, and fix-it’s, we decided to take a little family time yesterday and check out Shire Post Mint. For those who aren’t familiar, Shire Post Mint is a small, family-owned coin-minting shop in Arkansas. They make all sorts of coins and collectibles inspired by history and fantasy, such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.

Amazing, right?!

I’m particularly drawn to their Viking collection. Over the past couple of years, I’ve taken a deep obsession interest in viking history and ancient Norse culture and mythology.

I purchased books from Jackson Crawford, a leading expert on Norse history.

I bought Viking axes from a connection overseas.

I watched the entire series of Vikings.

I bought Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with all the expansion packs.

My Campfire Queen — feeding my obsession because she loves me — found a honey wine called Odin’s Skull made by Dansk Mjod. It’s amazing. So much so that I bought a viking drinking horn so I could enjoy it properly.

Oh, and last night we watched The Northman.

This morning I decided to commemorate my Saturday of Awesomeness with a new Hawk & Bear t-shirt design inspired by the overwhelming rush of nerd joy I got while visiting Shire Post Mint.

I call it ‘Fire in the Sky.’ You should get one.

Until next time, ‘ver heil ok sæl’.
